The Workshop opened with a review of railway noise and vibration research a
nd results since the last Workshop. The achievements resulting from the dev
elopment of tools and methods to design solutions for rolling noise reducti
on were emphasized. The growing need for decision support systems to seek t
he most efficient application, in an economic sense, of solutions for diffe
rent elements of the vehicle or track system was also stressed. (C) 2000 Ac
