Excitation functions were measured for nuclear reactions on natural Ti
leading to the formation of the Sc-43,Sc-44m,Sc-44g,Sc-46,Sc-47,Sc-48
and V-48 isotopes up to 21 MeV deuteron energy using the stacked-foil
technique. The measured excitation functions, the calculated thick ta
rget yields and activity calibration functions for the thin layer acti
vation technique have been compared with the earlier literature data.
The investigation with respect to their potential application as monit
or reactions showed that the reactions on Ti-nat could be recommended
for monitoring deuteron beams, especially the Ti-nat(d,x)V-48 reaction
, in the energy range from 3 up to 20 MeV. However, to clear up the di
screpancies in the literature and to compare the results with other mo
nitor reactions, additional measurements are required. (C) 1997 Elsevi
