Abstract
To complete the radiometric map of Syria, and to estimate the natural background radiation levels for environmental monitoring, a carborne s urvey was undertaken over the Deir Az-Zor area. This area was not cove red by a previous airborne survey, except for peripheral regions in th e south and west. To complete the radiometric map, results of the carb orne and airborne surveys had to be merged. This paper presents the me rging procedure which was used after normalizing the two data sets to match each other. No anomalies suitable for radioelement exploration w ere found. However, the overall radiometric maps resulting from the pr esent work were consistent with the maps of the areas covered by the a irborne survey. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
