The study concerns the characterization of a two-dimensional sink flow
when the electrically conducting fluid is submitted to the influence
of a homogeneous and steady magnetic field. The problem is considered
for small values of the magnetic Reynolds number and large values of t
he magnetic field intensity. A classical similarity method gives an ex
act analytical solution for this problem. The results show that the fl
ow is confined in a layer for which depth is proportional to the inver
se of the magnetic field intensity.
