Abstract
A distribution function, using dynamical weights, proposed previously to describe statistical mechanical systems in stationary states, is di scussed from a physical point of view. The distribution function corre ctly describes certain large current fluctuations far from equilibrium , observed in two computer simulations, which model a shearing fluid a nd a conducting solid, respectively.
