Jm. Keefe et S. Medjuck, THE CONTRIBUTION OF LONG-TERM ECONOMIC COSTS TO PREDICTING STRAIN AMONG EMPLOYED WOMEN CAREGIVERS, Journal of women & aging, 9(3), 1997, pp. 3-25
Using a feminist perspective as a guiding framework, this paper invest
igates the relative contributions of employment, caregiving, and econo
mic factors in predicting levels of strain for employed women caregive
rs. Hierarchical regression analyses indicate that, in addition to var
iables describing the caregiving situation, the consequences of econom
ic variables significantly contribute to caregiver strain. The effects
of these long term economic consequences on women's lives illustrates
that work and family are intertwined in complex ways. The recognition
of these economic consequences represents a critical contribution to
the research on employment and caregiving.
