Abstract
Localization of bicoid messenger RNA to the anterior cortex of the developi ng oocyte is essential for correct anterior-posterior patterning of the Dro sophila embryo. It now seems that, the Swallow protein functions as an adap tor, bridging bicoid mRNA to dynein, a molecular motor that would transport the complex anteriorly along microtubules.
