Photodetection and photon imaging have always been an important tool for me
dical diagnosis, therapy and prognosis. Radiology and nuclear medicine are
the two disciplines that have taken most advantage of the advent of new dig
ital detector technology to improve their sensitivity and specificity. A br
ief overview will be given and selected new developments and new ideas will
