Abstract
Interferometric measurement method was presented which allows for determini ng spectral dependence of sensitivity of modal birefringence in highly bire fringent fibers to temperature, elongation and hydrostatic pressure. Modal birefringence was also measured versus wavelength for investigated fibers. Measurements were carried out for two elliptical core fibers and one fiber with stress induced birefringence in the spectral range from 630 nm to 840 nm. Strong wavelength dependence of modal birefringence and its sensitivity to external parameters was detected in elliptical core fibers. In the fibe r with stress-induced birefringence wavelength dependence of all fiber char acteristics was much lower.
