Abstract
Oligonucleotide 5'-polyphosphates are formed under potentially prebiotic co nditions from oligonucleotide 5'-phosphates and sodium trimetaphosphate. Ol igonucleotides activated as polyphosphates undergo template-directed ligati on. We believe that these reactions could have produced longer oligonucleot ide products from shorter substrates under prebiotic conditions.
