An experimental investigation of the free decay of quantized turbulence in
isotopically pure superfluid He-4 at mK temperatures is discussed. Vortices
are created by a vibrating grid, and detected by their trapping of negativ
e ions. Preliminary results suggest the existence of a temperature-independ
ent vortex decay mechanism below T similar to 70 mK. (C) 2000 Elsevier Scie
