Abstract
We describe an experimental set-up to study crystal growth and melting of H e-3 below the solid ordering transition. We improved the set-up of Wagner e t al. [R. Wagner, Physica B 194-196 (1994) 961] by adding a 9 T magnet and guiding the optical path around the nuclear stage to the CCD chip. We obtai ned pictures of He-3 crystals at 0.6 mK in zero held; we also took the firs t pictures of spin ordered solid He-3 grown from the superfluid A(2) phase in 9 T. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
