Abstract
The Institut Laue Langevin operates a polarised He-3 gas production facilit y based upon the "Mainz" system using metastable exchange optical pumping a t low pressure. The current state of the development of polarised He-3 neut ron spin filters at the ILL is discussed. Target cells with long wall relax ation times have been produced and two methods for producing homogeneous gu ide fields on the neutron beam-line have been pursued. A first test of a He -3 spin filter in the stray field of a superconducting magnet is discussed. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
