A new two-dimensional curved multidetector (PSD) has been installed on the
backscattering spectrometer IN10 at the ILL. In this new configuration, the
angular resolution is improved significantly and depending on the size of
the sample, may vary from 2 degrees to 6 degrees (18 degrees in the old set
up). This enables Bragg peaks to be located very precisely. Further more, b
ecause exact backscattering geometry can be retained for all scattering ang
les, the energy revolution is constant over the whole detector and is impro
ved to 0.7 mu eV (0.8 in the old setup). (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All
