Abstract
A new mode of the time-of-flight polarised neutron reflectometer for invest igation of inelastic interaction between thermal neutrons and surface excit ations via reflection by thin films is described, Using the direct inelasti c method with relating monochromator (Delta lambda/lambda = 4 x 10(-2)/lamb da, Delta E/E = 0.09 x 10-(2) x E-1/2, [lambda] = Angstrom, [E] = meV) and time-of-flight energy analysis the upper limit of the probability of therma l neutron - surface phonon inelastic collision for the Ni/Ti multilayer str ucture in the energy transfer region near the maximum of state density func tion of bulk Ni has been estimated experimentally.
