Liposomes (multilamellar vesicles) are formed with concentric onion-like sh
ells of alternating water and lipid-bilayer regions. These structures are c
haracterised by the parameters of the periodical shells. Centrosymmetrical
shell model was used to describe the measured small-angle neutron scatterin
g curves of the Lp(gel) and Pp(rippled gel) phases of dipalmitoylphosphatid
ylcholine (DPPC) liposomes applying Gaussian thickness fluctuations in the
radial periodicity. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
