The contrasting magnetic structures of CeAuGe and CeAgCe are determined by
neutron diffraction on powdered samples. In the case of CeAuGe, the magneti
c peaks are found at the same positions in 2 theta as the nuclear peaks, co
nfirming ferromagnetic ordering. The Ce moments lie within the ab-plane, an
d have a magnitude of mu(Ce) approximate to 1.1 mu(B). In the case of CeAgG
e, the magnetic peaks can be indexed on the basis of a k = [1/3, 0, 0] prop
agation vector. Again the Ce moments lie within the nb-plane but with an in
creased magnetic moment of mu(Ce) approximate to 1.6 mu(B). (C) 2000 Elsevi
