Aa. Fabbri et al., EFFECT OF DIFFERENT ANTIFUNGALS ON THE CONTROL OF PAPER BIODETERIORATION CAUSED BY FUNGI, International biodeterioration & biodegradation, 39(1), 1997, pp. 61-65
The inhibition of some fungal strains responsible for paper biodeterio
ration is reported. Antimicrobials (butylated hydroxytoluene, BHT and
butylated hydroxyanisole, BHA), azole antifungals (econazole, miconazo
le and ketoconazole) and chitin synthase inhibitors (uridine, 5-fluoro
uridine, 2-deoxyuridine) have been assessed for efficacy against Penic
illium chrysogenum Them, Aspergillus terreus Thom, Stachybotrys atra C
orda and Chaetomium elatum Kunze, fungal strains isolated from deterio
rated papers. Our results have shown that the most evident inhibiting
effect on fungal growth has been obtained with miconazole and econazol
