Abstract
HIV infects and affects children differently than it does adults, An unders tanding of the epidemiology of pediatric HIV infection may reveal opportuni ties to reduce and perhaps eliminate perinatal transmission. Knowledge of u nique diagnostic features of HIV exposed newborns and pathogenetic characte ristics reflected in clinical manifestations helps physicians meet the mana gement challenges presented by children with HIV and their families.
