Abstract
One of the most complicated contracts on the pound 3.3 billion Jubilee Line extension project was that for London Bridge. Not only did it involve inst alling a new Underground station beneath one of London's busiest railway, t ube and bus stations, it also involved a significant and long overdue upgra ding of the whole site to increase transport capacity. New ticket halls, co ncourses and escalators were installed within the Byzantine maze of Victori an brick arches under the station while, further down, the contractor succe ssfully used the new Austrian tunnelling method to create many of the new p latforms, running tunnels and vent tunnels.
