Abstract
Case report - We report the case of a 48 hour-old newborn who refused parti ally hydrolyzed cow's milk infant formula, had vomiting spells and petechia l gastritis with adapted milk, then an angioedema and a failure to grow wit h extensively hydrolyzed cow's milk, breast milk and soy-protein formula. F eeding with an amino acid formula cleared his symptoms and improved his wei ght gain. Consequently, a diagnosis of an allergy to protein hydrolysate in fant formula was made. Conclusion. - Clinical manifestations of intolerance to extensively hydroly zed cow's milk proteins can occur in the first days after birth. Cross-alle rgy to breast milk and soy formulas is frequent An amino acid-based formula diet provides a safe alternative. (C) 2000 Editions scientifiques et medic ales Elsevier SAS.
