J. Gilbert et al., LOW SPECIFICITY OF PGP9.5 EXPRESSION FOR DETECTION OF MICROMETASTATICNEUROBLASTOMA, British Journal of Cancer, 75(12), 1997, pp. 1779-1781
To determine the specificity of neuroendocrine protein gene product (P
GP9.5) gene transcripts for detecting micrometastatic neuroblastoma, w
e have used a highly sensitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniq
ue to evaluate expression of this gene in normal blood and bone marrow
. While expression of the tyrosine hydroxylase gene was not detected i
n any normal sample, low-level PGP9.5 expression was detected in eight
out of ten blood and seven of 12 marrow samples. PGP9.5 gene transcri
pts in normal tissues have the potential to interfere with the detecti
on of micrometastatic neuroblastoma.
