Splenic preservation and conservative management are now accepted norms whe
n dealing with splenic pathologic conditions. This case report describes th
e technique of laparoscopic partial splenectomy for an undiagnosed splenic
lesion. A thorough understanding of splenic anatomy permits laparoscopic pa
rtial splenectomy with the resultant benefits, including a decreased risk o
f postsplenectomy sepsis, short hospital stay, and superior cosmesis, The s
uccess and relative ease of performing this procedure will pave the way for
its future use in other selective cases involving splenic pathology.
