We report the case of a 32-year-old woman presenting with acute extremity i
schemia due to thrombosis of a previously undetected popliteal artery aneur
ysm. The popliteal artery aneurysm was revealed by PST which was indicated
for the treatment of thrombosis of the superficial femoral artery PST was c
omplicated by a peripheral embolism with subsequent severe extremity ischae
mia. Immediate embolectomy and reconstructive vascular surgery led to a suc
cessful result.
This case illustrates the diagnostic problems of a thrombosed popliteal art
ery aneurysm and warns of embolic complications during PST.
