We report the discovery of a low surface brightness (LSB) object serendipit
ously found during deep CCD imaging of a compact group of galaxies, Seyfert
's Sextet, in the VR and I bands. The LSB object is located 2.'3 southwest
from the group's center. Its surface brightness within the angular effectiv
e radii of r(eff)(VR) = 4." 8 and r(eff)(I) = 4." 8 is very low: mu(eff)(VR
) = 25.28 mag arcsec(-2) and mu(eff)(I) = 24.47 mag arcsec(-2), respectivel
y. The apparent magnitudes are m(AB)(VR) = 19.87 and m(I) = 19.06. The obje
ct is most likely an LSB dwarf galaxy, but other possibilities are also dis
cussed.
