Growing regulations consume considerable time and resources that could oth
erwise be devoted to direct improvement of patient care. Because of the Lim
ited scope of dermatology encounters, regulations and other impediments hav
e a disproportionally greater impact on the care of patients with skin dise
ase. This article discusses many of the evolving regulations that were init
iated ostensibly to improve patient care but that probably have an even gre
ater negative impact on physicians' ability to deliver high quality dermato
logic care.
