C. Tengel et al., Improved defection of genetically modified soya and maize components in cacao containing foods and food additives, DEUT LEBENS, 96(4), 2000, pp. 129-135
The specific and sensitive PCR-method allows the determination of genetical
ly modified plants (RR(TM)-soybean and Basta/Event 176-maize) in Various fo
od-samples. The first and crucial step in this analysis is the isolation of
the total genomic DNA from the samples. In this study we therefore present
two isolation-methods (QIAGEN GmbH, Hilden, Germany) which are suitable fo
r the efficient extraction of really small traces of DNA from raw materials
, from treated and proceeded foodstuffs. The QIAamp DNA Stool Mini Kit prov
ides a rapid DNA purification from samples with high concentrations of PCR
inhibitors, e.g. cocoa-cointainig products. On the other hand the DNeasy Pl
ant Mini Kit can be used for the fast and easy purification of total cellul
ar DNA from all other foodstuffs (raw materials).
