The paper examines the question of the realization of the requirements on a
future space radar system to provide safe navigation in polar regions. The
se requirements will be satisfied by the 'Severyanin' radar now in developm
ent, in particular, in terms of the swath width of the image to be formed a
nd the resolvance. The 'Severyanin' radar will have parameters similar to t
hose of the 'Radarsat' satellite radar, but unlike the latter, it will be a
ble to provide any consumer with a ready-to-use radar image in real time.
