The radiation characteristics of a millimetre wave Gaussian beam antenna (G
BA) have been investigated theoretically and experimentally. The antenna co
nsists of a fused-quartz half-wavelength plano-convex Fabry-Perot resonator
fed by a pyramidal horn. Very low sidelobe levels (< -35dB) and a fairly g
ood efficiency (> 50%) are obtained at 57.2GHz. Such an antenna configurati
on is therefore suitable for wireless broadband communications.
