Abstract
A new type of metallic photonic bandgap is proposed which has a wider forbi dden frequency band than currently available photonic bandgap materials. In spired by natural photonic bandgap materials, such as that in butterfly win gs, the proposal bandgap material is suitable for microwave and infrared ap plications.
