Abstract
We investigate intrabeam scattering in strongly coupled beams of charg ed particles passing through quadrupole channels and deflection magnet s. Particular attention is paid to the problem, which longitudinal coo ling is necessary to overcome the shearing forces in the bending magne ts which oppose the formation of ordered particle beams in storage rin gs.
