We determined the Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy of formatio
n for CdTe-HgTe, ZnTe-CdTe, ZnTe-HgTe, and ZnSb-CdSb solid solutions b
y measuring the emf of high-temperature galvanic cells. All the invest
igated solid solutions show positive deviations from Raoult's law. The
thermodynamic stability of all the solid solutions decreases with dec
reasing temperature, and the energetics of formation depends on the in
teraction between the components of the metallic sublattice.
