Abstract
We have determined the partial mixing enthalpies in Ge(Si)-Ga-Gd terna ry systems by high-temperature calorimetric measurements. We computed the integral miring enthalpies from Delta (H) over bar(Gd) using the D arken method. We have shown that alloy formation in these system is ac companied by large exothermic effects. We have established that the in teraction between components in binary Gd-Ge(Si) and Gd-Ga liquid allo ys has a large influence on the thermodynamic behavior of these ternar y systems.
