Polycarbonates (PCs) are polyesters used for high-tech applications. For th
ese applications many properties are needed. Gas chromatography can provide
useful information about the thermodynamic properties of polymer systems f
or the determination of the parameters characterising polymer-solvent inter
actions. In this work, bisphenol A PC was studied by GLC: weight activity c
oefficients at infinite dilution and the Flory-Huggins parameter chi for pa
raffinic, cycloparaffinic and aromatic solvents have been determined. Two t
hermodynamic models, universal functional group activity coefficients (UNIF
AC)-FV and GC-Flory equation of state (EOS), were applied to correlate the
experimental data. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
