Abstract
The Cr6+/Cr3+ redox equilibria in the Na2O . 2B(2)O(3) and Na2O . 4B(2)O(3) melts were studied under an air atmosphere in the temperature range betwee n 1173 and 1473 K. The liquidus lines and tie lines delineating the solid-l iquid phases in the Cr2O3 - M2O3 (M = Fe, Al)- Na2O . xB(2)O(3) quasi-terna ry systems were determined at 1273 and 1373 K by the flux growth method bas ed on the Ostwald ripening mechanism. Activity coefficients of CrO1.5 in th e CrO1.5 - MO1.5 (M = Fe, Al) - Na2O . 2B(2)O(3) systems estimated by using these values were reported in the CrO1.5 FeO1.5 and CrO1.5 - AlO1.5 solid solution systems.
