Abstract
This paper introduces a novel method for the construction of reduced pyrami ds with interpolation tilters adapted to the orientation of local image fea tures. This construction establishes very efficient interpolative lossless compression, having also the added advantage of producing lossy replicas of the original, which, at lower resolutions lack undesirable artifacts near edges.
