The transmission of vibrations over the surface of the ground, due to a hig
h-speed moving, vertical harmonic strip load, is investigated theoretically
. Consequently, the problem is essentially two-dimensional and the interior
of the ground is modelled as an elastic half-space. The transformed soluti
ons are obtained using the Fourier transform on the space variable. A study
of a new damping model in the spatial wave-number domain is presented in A
ppendix A. Numerical results for the displacements on the surface are prese
nted for loads moving with speeds up to and beyond the Rayleigh wave Speed
of the half-space. (C) 2000 Academic Press.
