Sealant is designed so that in the range of low-shear rate, the viscosity i
s very large, and in the range of high-shear rate, the viscosity is very sm
all. The Ellis model is applied to Polysulfide sealant. Parameters in this
model are determined with a rheometor. In the high shear rate region, the v
iscosity depends much on the temperature. But in the low-shear rate region,
the viscosity does not depend on the temperature. The pressure drop of the
pumping sealant through the pipe and the minimum pipe diameter required to
discharge from tank under absolute zero pressure are calculated and their
results are found to be reasonable compared with actual plant data. The com
pounds of precoated fillers are much more thixotropic than those of uncoate
d fillers.
