Abstract
Torsion tests are traditionally used to provide basic data for the characte risation of the mechanical properties of metallic materials under shear. Th is paper gives details of these tests when applied to thermosetting resins. Three commercially available epoxies have been tested under quasi-static c onditions and at impact strain rates using a Hopkinson torsion bar apparatu s. The tests highlight the difference in behaviour between conventional unm odified epoxies and modern tougher formulations. Crown copyright (C) 2000 P ublished by Elsevier Science S.A.
