A new species of Croton (Euphorbiaceae) from Colombian Guyana

A new species of Croton from the Colombian Guayana is described and illustr ated as Croton araracuarae. By virtue of its stellate pubescence, entire st ipules, and especially by the evident space between the staminate and pisti llate flowers, it belongs to section Podostachys, even though it has bifid styles and pinnate leaf venation. It is differentiated from the other membe rs of the section by its entire, narrowly lanceolate leaves and by the sess ile glands at the apex of the petioles.
