Abstract
A new Monte Carlo scheme based on the system of Tsallis' generalized statis tical mechanics is applied to a simple double well potential to calculate t he canonical thermal average of potential energy. Although we observed seri ous quasi-ergodicity when using the standard Metropolis Monte Carlo algorit hm, this problem is largely reduced by the use of the new Monte Carlo algor ithm. Therefore, the ergodicity is guaranteed even for short Monte Carlo st eps if we use this new canonical Monte Carlo scheme. (C) 2000 Elsevier Scie nce B.V. All rights reserved.
