We propose an off-lattice resistor network as a conceptual framework for el
ectrical transport in two-dimensional systems of interacting particles. The
particles are considered as charge carriers and the molecular dynamics tec
hnique is applied to simulate the time evolution of the resulting network t
opology. The conductance of the off-lattice network is numerically calculat
ed at each time step and the resulting time series is analyzed for the pres
ence of long-range correlations. Our simulations with Lennard-Jones and soi
l-core types of interaction potentials indicate that the conductance of the
dynamical system displays power-law correlations in time with an exponent
that is significantly dependent on the temperature. (C) 2000 Elsevier Scien
