B. Meurer et al., SIMULATION OF SOLIDIFICATION OF MULTICOMPONENT ALLOYS, Journal de chimie physique et de physico-chimie biologique, 94(5), 1997, pp. 889-893
Two different models have been applied to simulate the solidification
of different multicomponent alloys using thermodynamic calculation met
hods. The Scheil model could successfully be used to simulate the comp
lex phase precipitation and microsegregation observed during cooling o
f commercial aluminum alloys at low cooling rates. The second model ta
king into account multicomponent solid-state diffusion is applied to t
he solidification of different steel grades and especially to the peri
tectic reaction. Example results are presented for a carbon steel and
a chromium steel. The results are in good agreement with experimental
data reported in the literature.
