Abstract
The gold-yttrium system has been studied by differential thermal analy sis (DTA), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), optical (LOM) and electron microscopy (SEM), electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Seven intermeta llic compounds have been found: Y2Au (Co2Si-type), YAu (CsCl-type), Y3 Au4 (Pu(3)Pd4-type), YAu2 (MoSi2-type), YAu3 (TiCu3-type), Y14Au51 (Gd 14Ag51-type), YAu6 (HoAu6-type). The Y-Au system is compared with the other trivalent rare earth metals-gold phase diagrams previously known .
