Abstract
Solvent extraction of catechin with trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) in hexan e was investigated at 303 K to elucidate the stoichiometric relationship of its extraction reaction and to evaluate the equilibrium constant. It was f ound that catechin is extracted as a 1:4 catechin : TOPO complex according to the following reaction: Catechin + 4 <(TOPO)over bar> = <(Catechin(TOPO) (4))over bar>. The equilibrium constant was evaluated as 5.01x10(4) [dm(12) mol(-4)].
