Abstract
In this article we review the development of techniques to acquire reliable reservoir gas samples using a wireline formation tester in the Malaysia-Th ailand Joint Development Area. This region is characterized by gas accumula tions comprised of multiple stacked separate pools where reservoir conditio ns are often considered hostile for wireline logging operations. Tn the art icle Eve use data from the 16-well exploration and appraisal program, durin g which 1968 pre-tests and 124 samples were successfully acquired, to compa re the quality of gas samples from a wireline formation tester with those o btained from drillstem tests in the same zones.
