Abstract
Iodosulfuron-methyl-sodium (provisionally approved ISO common name) is a ne w sulfonylurea herbicide for control of grass and broad-leaved weeds in cer eals. Low dosages of 10 g a.i./ha provide highly consistent herbicidal acti vity for early to mid postemergence applications. Selective usage is possible with the addition of the safener mefenpyr-dieth yl, in winter wheat, winter triticale, winter rye, spring wheat, durum whea t and spring barley, which reduces the crop injury without influencing herb icidal efficacy on grass and broad-leaved weeds. Iodosulfuron is an inhibitor of acetolactate synthase (ALS), and it has a f avourable toxicological and environmental profile. Laboratory and field soi l degradation studies indicate no significant carry over risks when used un der normal agricultural and environmental conditions.
