Abstract
Seismologists, and more recently computational and condensed-matter physici sts, have made extensive use of computer modeling to investigate the physic s of earthquakes. Here, the authors describe a simple cellular automaton mo del that explores the possible relationship between Gutenberg-Richter scali ng and critical phenomena.
