This has been an unusual year for the accumulation of evidence regarding th e clinical effects of inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and COX-2, This article reviews the available data regarding the clinical effects of the ne w COX-2-specific inhibitors, and speculates about the importance of the dat a as they relate to the treatment of patients with chronic pain and/or infl ammation.
