We have investigated spreading of superfluid He-4 on top of polished MgF2 a
nd evaporated SiO2 substrates. Our results show strongly varying contact an
gles of 0-15 mrad on the evaporated layers. According to our theoretical ca
lculations, these contact angles can be explained by a spatially varying di
stribution of vortex lines, the unpinning velocity of which is inversely pr
oportional to the liquid depth.
